Financial Controller

Reports to: Finance Director

Summary of Position

To oversee all finance and administration functions for the Group and ensure that all accounting records are appropriately kept and that every reported result complies with accounting standards and legislation. Duties include coordinating and managing the preparation of budget and financial forecasts, preparing monthly statements and other regular financial reports. To ensure the finance and admin team operates with a robust control environment and being the go-to contact for all external auditors.

As a senior role, the Financial Controller contributes to the financial strategy of a business and will be pivotal in the development of all internal control policies and procedures in the department. Responsibility for financial risk management and is expected to work alongside other senior leadership team members to create risk minimisation plans. To contribute to ensuring all financial systems are fit for purpose, are maintained, and can highlight any potential areas for improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the management of all day to day finance and admin operations - including Billing, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Cashiering, Purchasing and Funding Services.
  • Ensure robust team member training and development programs are in place for new and existing staff members.
  • Report to the Finance Director with timely and accurate financial statements and information.
  • Assist the Finance Director in presenting reports to senior executives, stakeholders, and board members.
  • Ensure reporting complies with professional and legal standards including statutory law and financial regulations.
  • Coordinating the preparation of budget and financial forecasting and reporting any variances.
  • Manage cash flow by tracking transactions and regularly reviewing internal reports.
  • Review all financial plans and budgets regularly to look for cost reduction opportunities.
  • Documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain internal controls.
  • Manage process re-engineering to improve effectiveness and efficiency of all finance processes and to enhance internal controls and risk management.
  • Overseeing the audit process and liaising with external personnel where required.
  • Support the business with the financial strategy and decision-making processes.
  • Assist the Finance Director with special projects and additional job tasks such as recruitment.
  • Oversee month and year end closure.
  • Responsibility and control of the VAT processing both domestic and overseas, and reporting to HMRC and other Vat bodies for the Group.
  • Assist the Finance Director with legal reporting.
  • Management of the Payroll function and responsible for PAYE reporting.
  • Develop an understanding of company procedures and the effect on all areas of the business.
  • To work with other departments where financial input is required.

Skills Requirements

  • Ideally fully qualified ACCA, CIMA or ICAEW
  • Excellent technical accounting knowledge including accounting standards
  • Must be analytical, numerate, and comfortable with complex calculations.
  • The ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • High prioritisation and organisational skills with an ability to juggle multiple workloads.
  • Exceptional communication skills. You will actively listen and convey expectations, plans and outcomes effectively to internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
