In The Spotlight - Moira Johnson

4th July 2024

We sat down with Moira Johnson, our Funding Services Executive, to discuss how she has settled in and grown in her position.

Could you tell us a bit about your career before Principal?

Shockingly, I only had one job before this. I was in the civil service with the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for 6 years. They are the government department that issues Disclosure certificates for recruitment purposes. They also maintain and manage the Barring lists.

I worked on a few different teams while there doing administration-type roles. The most interesting was when I was on a team that processed Fingerprint applications as this role had a lot of variety and was very versatile.

How has Principal helped you to settle into your role?

Principal has been a very supportive environment in the short time that I’ve been here. One thing that stands out is the DiSC workshop I did when I first started. Taking part in that was a helpful way to get to know people around the business and gave me a better understanding of myself which has helped how I work with other people.

I also have weekly catchups with my manager, which are great for tracking my progress.

What has been your biggest achievement at Principal so far, and tell us a bit about how you have achieved it?

I think doing this interview is, as I’m being used as an example of someone who has developed well.

I’ve been able to achieve this because I attended a one-on-one workshop to work on my professional growth and I have actions for this that I continually work on.

Tell us three goals you hope to achieve in your position at Principal?

  1. Passing my probation.
  2. Becoming an expert in my role.
  3. Become part of the culture/social side of the business in the future.
