Brighton & Hove Albion u23's vs Crawley Town FC
Thanks to the Sussex Fa and Brighton & Hove Albion for hosting a great evening of football and celebration at the Parafix Sussex Senior Cup Final.
Principal are the proud sponsors of the official matchday programme for the event.
The football itself was a game of two halves. The first half was a tentative display of few chances for either team whereas the second was much more open. With Crawley opening the scoring against the run of play courtesy of a cruel own goal from Josh Kerr on the 67 minute. It seemingly looked as if it would cost Brighton the trophy until James Tilley coolly slotted an equaliser past Crawley goalkeeper, Yusuf Mersin, on the 82 minute. Then the momentum swung back in Brighton’s favour as Mersin clumsily took down the Brighton striker in the box, with the referee instantly pointing to the spot. The ensuing penalty was tamely taken and Mersin was able to palm it away for a corner. However, the seemingly inevitable extra time was not to be as from that corner, the unlikely hero, Josh Kerr (who scored the own goal earlier that game) rose highest to nod the ball into the far corner to win the game.
“When you see that ball going into the net it's the worst feeling ever, but you can't just stop there, you've still got a job to do for the team.”
